The Santa Fe Springs Carbon Operation designs and produces ceramic and carbon high temperature composites for aerospace and automotive applications. The Ceramic Composites applications include turbine engine components, industrial products and launch vehicles. SUMMARY:
This is a Lead Project Engineer position. This person manages a focused cross-functional team to execute internal research and development projects and customer funded development projects. Typically performs as Principal Investigator on advanced developmental programs. Works with customers on new development projects to define requirements and market projections. Develops cost and technical proposals. Manages projects to meet schedule, technical and cost objectives. Makes technical presentations.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manages and directs development programs to meet schedule, technical objectives, and costs. Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects.

Writes technical and costing proposals to meet customer requirements.

Defines and develops procedures for project engineers and CMC technicians.

Directs material testing activities associated with projects.

Develops heat and corrosion resistant materials and manufacturing processes for use in aerospace applications.

Schedules and defines process parameters for ceramic furnaces. Directs manufacturing engineering and CMC technicians in layouts, etc.

Communicates with customers on existing projects and participates in discussions regarding future opportunities.

Writes technical reports, makes presentations to support development and planning activities.

Maintains a technical awareness of new processes, new ideas and new customer requirements.

Combines this knowledge into development of new markets or new processes for development of Goodrich total capability.

Provides technical leadership, strategy, and know how into new material systems and their development. Assists in development and implementation of strategy within Goodrich.

Fully supports all safety initiatives. Comply with all Carbon Products EHS policies and procedures, including personal protective equipment use, housekeeping standards, and EHS training requirements.

Supports policy deployment goals and continuous improvement.

LEADERSHIP AND INTERPERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Able to interface and communicate with customers, outside vendors, and individuals in other departments to get things done and to develop new opportunities. Self-starter.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Able to work with, direct and communicate with different levels of people to meet project objectives.

Able to work with upper level management to define strategic goals and to represent the best interests of the CMC team. Able to interface with and to motivate CMC team members to meet the customer requirements.

Works internally with program manager, engineers, technicians, furnace operations, purchasing and quality assurance to complete projects on schedule and within budget. Also works with technical personnel at other Goodrich sites to define and meet objectives of the project.

 

Basic Qualifications:

A BS degree in an engineering or scientific field is required. A MS degree is preferred



15 years experience in an engineering role with team leadership experience of at least 5 years



COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.

Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Ability to write high impact speeches and detailed reports.

Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on complex topics to customers, management and public groups.



REASONING ABILITY:

Excellent ability to apply principles of logical, scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.



Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

May hold professional Engineering license.
